Stromae has the exact same codes of dress throughout the whole music video. In my opinion the effect of this is it to tell the audience that the storyline is based over a 1 day period and it is what happens on a day-to-day basis, which again fits the name of the song 'Alors on Danse' meaning 'So we Dance'.
I feel that this music video is very effective in the way it has been produced in split-screen however I feel as though this would be very difficult to produce with the budget we have and the time we have in order to plan, film and edit. Although it would be difficult to produce a music video with split-screen throughout I feel as though it would be effective to use split-screen in our media production in order to portray the perspective of 2 different social groups (the homeless and wealthy).
Alors on Dance - Stromae
The literal translation of "Alors on Danse" from French into English is "So We Dance" which at first one would think it has no relevance to the music video. At the beginning of the music video we see Stromae sitting in his office looking depressed/ bored. Towards the end of the day Stromae leaves work and goes to visit his child but is prevented by his wife. As Stromae leaves his wifes house a homeless man steals his coat - everything seems to be going downhill for him. Stromae then goes into a pub and starts drinking which causes him to become a slightly drunk. After this he begins to sing on a small stage in the pub, shortly after his performance he passes out and is brought back to his office desk from a stranger - back to the office where the music video started. The song name "Alors on Danse" is indeed relevant to the music video as it is a story of his day-to-day life, which is: Work, Drink, Sleep - Repeat. "Alors on Danse" really means - "so we go again".
The first element that the audience will notice when watching this music video is that throughout the video it uses the split-screen editing effect. In my opinion this is very unique and creative as the video can portray a story from 2 different point of views - we as the audience have a "360" view of the location and the plot. As well as the 360 effect as you can see in the screenshots above and below there is 1 medium shot and 1 close up shot the effect of this is to show the general image in one of the two shots and in the other show the audience exactly what is happening. The middle screenshot above shows Stromae opening a door yet the second shot is a close up of him unlocking the door with a key, showing the audience in detail what is happening. Likewise the screenshot on the right shows him drinking an alcoholic beverage and the 2nd split screen shows a close up of the drink.

The 3 screenshots above are when Stromae is in the pub being lifted up (literally and emotionally) and as you can see the cuts between the shots are very fast, in the 10 second sequence of Stromae being lifted up (1:59 - 2:13). When watching this I noticed that the edit cuts were extremely fast, roughly 19 different camera shots estimating each shot at under 1 second long each - this editing effect is used effectively as the tempo of the song increases therefore the edit cuts increase to increase the flow/ speed of the video.
Sometimes one half of the screen changes the camera shot at different times to the other half, this is used in order to give the audience a different perspective of the performance. In the sequence I referred to above this occurs very frequently, especially when Stromae is 'crowd-surfing' as it gives many different perspectives of the people lifting him up, again allowing the audience to have a better understanding/ view of what is happening.
