Digipak

Rihanna - Loud

 

The images to the left shows Rihanna's Digipak for the album 'Loud'. As you can see the main colour present in the digipak is red which represents love. Also, red is a vibrant colour and so it attracts many people to the digipak and so potentially will increase its profit.

 

The digipak is a 3 fold digipak and inside is one large image of Rihanna lying in a bed of roses. This is very effective as it really stands out to the audience and will appeal to many people. The reason Rihanna used a 3 fold digipak was also because she had 2 CD's to sell and so a 2 fold digipak would be too cramped. 

 

I love the effect of using 1 image across 3 different pages on the inside cover of the digipak as it really stands out to the audience. I will use this technique in my ancillary however I would like to use it on my front and back cover as then it is how the audience is originally confronted by.

Thibault Cauvin - Cities

 

Thibaut is a French musician and he has made a digipak for his most recent album called 'Cities'. Although his genre is the complete opposite of Rihanna or the song I intend on making a music video for his digipak is a influential. 

 

As you can see to the image on the right we as the audience see a close up of half of his face, this allows the audience to realise who he is and so they know the artist. 

 

As well as that I also see a lyric booklet in the left side of the digipak which is beneficial to the audience as they may not understand/ know lyrics to the songs. 

 

The primary colour theme used is orange which again is vibrant and stands out, therefore in my digipak production I must ensure to use vibrant colours to appeal to the audience.

 

In my opinion it is a clean and professional digipak and I will aim to produce something similar to Thibault. The reason being because I feel a 2 panel digipak is easier to use for the audience and a sleek digipak will make it more appealing to the audience.

In conclusion after researching into digipaks the most conventional way to design a digipak is to ensure that there are vibrant colours used and to keep referencing the same character/ performer over an over again in order to reinforce to the audience that this is who they are listening to/ who is present in the music video.

Magazine Advert

Magazine adverts are extremely popular in todays society as they are a popular place to promote/ market your products, however due to advancements in technology more and more people are on social media and so in the future it may be a good idea to consider social media advertisements as well. Below are 4 music magazine adverts from different music genres that I have researched:

There are certain magazine companies that promote new music releases based on their target audience and whether it would be beneficial to promote the song artists new album. There are many different conventions for magazine advertisements depending on the magazine company itself and mainly the genre of the album. 

 

As you can see from 'Adele 21' the whole advertisement is in black & white which tells the audience that the songs in this album are most likely to have a slower tempo and the album is probably from a mix of genres between soul and pop. For Kayne West's advertisement there are 2 prominant colours and they are red and white (the colours of the text) and this makes the advert stand out to certain audiences. Kanye is centre framed and has a smart dress code, therefore the audience would generally identify this album to be from Rap genre. Lana Del Rey has a simplistic advert design which is an image of her whereby she seem 'pure' and 'innocent' and by using blue as the text colour increases the 'innocent' representation and so the audience would instantly refer to this album as being indie-pop. Finally, Madonna isn't as centralised as the other adverts and she seems overpowered by the text as this is a front cover advert and so the magazine has to promote other stories or news articiles in the magazine. This makes it harder for the audience to be able to know which genre this album is from and so it will make the audience want to visit the main page to read more about the new album release and then will potentially make more people want to listen to the album, making a larger profit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There are many features that are used in each advertisement and that is use of a character/ artist. The reason why this is would be so that the audience can notice that this advert is for thaat artist and so are more likely to know whether or not they will enjoy the album or not. As well as casting, there is also reference to the artists name, this is very important as the audience wants to know which artist they are buying the album from. The majority of people like artists and not individual songs, therefore if they see the name of an artist they like, they are more likely to be interested in the advert.

 

The final convention of a magazine advert is to state where the audience can buy, listen or hire the album from in order to listen to it, that is the most important convention. This is because if the audience are not to know where to buy/ listen to the album, then there will be less people buying the product and so a lower profit.

 

In conclusion I will ensure to use a character which is prominant in my music video to increase the synergy between the two products. As well as this I will ensure that the artists name, album name, institutional logo and places to listen/ buy the song from are easily seen on the advert to make it as easy as possible for the audience!
