Casting
Main Character
(Becca Spain)
Originally we were opting for a male character in order to fit the generic stereotype for males being the homeless characters, however we decided to challenge generic conventions and choose a female character as the audience are more likely to feel sorry for her as females are stereotypically represented as weak and vulnerable.
When thinking of actors we wanted a female who can act well, is flexible with hours to act and looks around 17 years old. Becca fitted this criteria and therefore we decided to cast her as the homeless protagonist.
Performer
(Zack Quinn)
When casting a performer we wanted someone who looked around 19/20 years old, confident and was talented in music. Zack fortunately fitted this criteria and therefore we casted him as the performer.
Our idea for the performer was to be the narrator of the main characters life and therefore we wanted someone who looks older than her in order to show that he has more "life experience" than her.
Boyfriend
(Oliver Pilcher)
Casting the boyfriend was fairly straight forward as we needed someone similar age to Becca (17) and someone who seems fashionable.
Oliver volunteered himself to act as the boyfriend and fortunately he fitted the criteria of what we were searching for.
