Johnathan Glazer
Johnathan Glazer was born on 26th March 1965 in England and started to be an English filmmaker in 1987 and he made feature films, music videos and advertisements.
Some well known music videos Glazer has produced are:
-
Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity (1996)
-
Radiohead - Karma Police (1997)
-
Blur - The Universal (1995)
-
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Into My Arms (1997)
-
Glazer has directed very popular and successful music videos which is why I am influenced by him, however there is one music video in particular as to why I am so heavily influenced by him, and that is 'Virtual Insanity' by Jamiroquai. The reason being because of the amazing and well thought out choriography, from the audiences point of view we feel as though the floor is moving when in fact the walls are moving. When I found this out I was amazed and was so influenced by this as the timings needed to be perfect. It appears to all be one take as well due to the edit and this makes me want to make a music video which is one take, however due to my small budget it is not possible.
Here is the full music video of 'Virtual Insanity' - Jamiroquai
Johnathan Glazer has also produced made advertisements throughout his career as a filmmaker with famous brands such as:
-
Kodak "Husband to Be"
-
Nuke "Frozen Moment"
-
Stella Artois "Last Orders"
-
Volkswagen Polo - "Protection"
-
Barclays
-
Audi "The Ring"
Here is the commercial for Audi "The Ring"
Johnathan Glazer makes simple but effective commercials and likes to play on words, for example in this commercial 'The Ring' he uses boxing as a way of linking the two aspects together. Although some members of the audience may say that boxing has nothing to do with the commercial, in fact it does because it is about power, speed, agility and that is what the new Audi that Glazer was promoting was about.
Overall Glazer influenced me because of his unique thoughts and ideas that were used in Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai as I heavily enjoy to view/ produce aesthetically pleasing products.
