Locations

We have chosen 3 different locations to film in:

  • Town Centre (Maidstone)

  • Oaken Woods (Barming)

  • Detling Hill (Thurnham Castle)

However we will film in 2 different locations in the town centre as we want to show the contrast between the wealthy and poorer areas of the town which has an effect of the female homeless character. As you can see in the photos below we have chosen to film in these locations as they look rundown and perfectly fits the generic conventions of an urban environment.

Town Centre (Maidstone)

Maidstone is a very useful location as it is easily accessible for all of the characters/ group members. As well as accessibility it has a variety of locations and shop doorways which is useful for us to show a contrast in society not just by characters and people but also by locations.

As you can see in the location shots below the area seems more attractive and the homless character looks slightly out of place as she is scruffy and dirty yet the surrounding area is clean and vibrant.

Oaken Woods (Barming)

We have decided to film at Oaken Woods in Barming for the flashback scenes, the reason for this is because there is high-key lighting in the woods and nearby in the field.

The high-key lighting helps us to use post-production in order to give the sun rays a white glow which will give a 'heavenly' effect which will make the audience instantly understand that this is a flashback of when the female protagonist wasn't homeless and was happy.

The trees in Oaken Woods also gives a sense of entrapment towards the characters which we will be able to contrast with the freedom of the field which will reflect the difference in moods of the flashbacks.

Detling Hill

We will use Detling Hill to film our performance shots as it is a scenic view over the top of Maidstone from a distance. Our idea is to film the performance shots as the sun is rising and setting in order to show time passing. Our plan is to film Zack filming the whole of the song as different locations around Detling Hill which will allow us to pick and choose the best shots/ locations to put into the music video.

Below is a panorama shot that Tom Groves took of the environment and group as we went up to Detling Hill after school one day to review the location:
